The brothers of the coast : a romance / William Gilmore Simms ; [transcribed from the manuscript by Graham Duncan]. 2008.

Transcription of an incomplete manuscript [ca. 1866] from the Charles Carroll Simms collection of the papers of William Gilmore Simms in the Manuscripts Division of the South Caroliniana Library. Note on this transcript: "The manuscript of The Brothers of the Coast is incomplete. Simms apparently wrote much of it in anticipation of its sale, which did not happen. Left unfinished at the time of his death, the manuscript further suffered from the ravages of time, climate, and insects ... Part I contains the transcript with as many missing words supplied as is reasonable, with an eye toward providing a readable text; unclear words with no obvious contextual clues are marked 'unknown.' Part II contains the verbatim transcript, with no textual emendations."

233 leaves : facsims. ; 29 cm.
